The sea

Waking up to a vast dry land. Luckily, I never had to fantom that thought. I always lived near the ocean. To live in an island is to be surrounded by this mass of water that isolates you from the world. You are trap in a glass bubble that you can’t escape.

And yet…

The deep blue color that follows you everywhere, that has it’s moods and violence that culminates in foam and giant waves that can swallow you whole. And yet I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The sea that gave the opportunity to expand and discover new lands is the same one that takes men into the abyss. That gave us a past that we cannot escape from. Saudade. That cannot be translated.  This is the importance of the sea to this country.
