Sometimes they click for unexpected reasons, sometimes is because you saw and read them both in the same week. Anyhow, here is an improbable pair but that fits well together. I talk about Captain America: Civil War and A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness.
Captain America: Civil War is the third installment in the Captain America movies and I must say it was another winner. He is by far the super hero with the best movies and this one brings up a heated debate about the moral and ethical limitations of the individual and of the states and what limits which one can cross. It was also full with bright appearances by Spider Man and Ant Man. A must see for fans of the genre.
A Monster Calls in the other hand is the story beautifully written by Patrick Ness and with the haunting drawings of Jim Kay. The story of Connor and the troubled and painful period told as a dark fairy tale was something else. Without more spoilers I think it’s a mandatory read for all.
Why do I think they complement each other?
Because they are about people and the events that crash the foundations of their morality and make them walk a line between what is right or wrong. It’s about the painful truths. And that is why they fit together very well.
Summing up, I enjoy both of them and you should give them a go. Did you see them already? Do you think I’m full of chimichangas? Let me know.
